Scanning strategies for imaging arrays

چکیده

Large-format imaging arrays are best operated in scanning observing modes rather than traditional positionswitched (chopped) modes. The choice of observing mode is critical for isolating source signals from various types of noise interference, especially for ground-based instrumentation operating under a bright atmosphere. Ideal observing strategies can combat 1/f noise, resist instrumental defects, sensitively recover emission on large scales, and provide an even field coverage – all under feasible requirements of telescope movement. This work aims to guide the design of observing patterns that maximize scientific returns. It also compares some of the popular choices of observing modes for (sub)millimeter imaging, such as random, Lissajous, billiard, spiral, Onthe-Fly (OTF), DREAM, chopped and stare patterns. Many of the conclusions are also applicable other imaging applications and imaging in one dimension (e.g. spectroscopic observations).

Adaptive beamforming in row-column addressed arrays for 3D ultrasound imaging

In recent years, to reduce the complexity of implementation, the use of 2D arrays with restricted row-column addressing has been considered for 3D ultrasound imaging. In this paper, two methods of adaptive beamforming based on the minimum variance method are represented in such a way that the computational load is much less than using the full adaptive beamforming method. In both proposed metho...

Single-molecule protein arrays enabled by scanning probe block copolymer lithography.

The ability to control the placement of individual protein molecules on surfaces could enable advances in a wide range of areas, from the development of nanoscale biomolecular devices to fundamental studies in cell biology. Such control, however, remains a challenge in nanobiotechnology due to the limitations of current lithographic techniques. Herein we report an approach that combines scannin...

Amorphous Silicon Flat Panel Imagers for Medical Application

A new gamma camera based on hydrogenated amorphous silicon (a-Si:H) pixel arrays to be used in nuclear medicine is introduced. Various performance characteristics of a-Si:H imagers are reviewed and compared with those of currently used equipment. An important component in the a-Si:H imager is the scintillator screen. A new approach for fabrication of high resolution CsI(Tl) scintillator layers,...

Separation of Salmonella Typhimurium Bacteria from Water Using MWCNTs Arrays

In this study, Salmonella Typhimurium bacteria removal from polluted water has been investigated using multiwall carbon nanotubes arrays. Experimental results reveal that the contact time, the bacterial concentration and the weight of multiwall carbon nanotubes arrays have positive significant effects on the bacteria removal efficiency. Increasing the contact time and the weight of multiwall ca...

Cell-targeted self-assembled DNA nanostructures.

We present two strategies for attaching self-assembled DNA arrays to the surfaces of cells. Our first approach uses biotin-streptavidin interactions to bind DNA architectures to biotinylated cells. The second approach takes advantage of specific antibody-cell surface interactions, conjugated arrays and the subsequent binding to native epidermal growth factor receptors expressed on cancer cells....
